M. (Piriczky) Bender, age 85, of Litchfield, passed away Tuesday, January 27,
2004 at her home. She was born May 10, 1918 in Wright Twp., Michigan to Arno
& Phebe (Alpaugh) Olmstead. She was married May 25, 1936 to Arthur
Piriczky, he preceded her in death in 1981, she then married Russell Bender on
Jan. 2, 1986 and he survives.
Edna was a graduate of Waldron High School in 1936 and a graduate of the South
Central School of Nursing in 1968. She was a licensed practical nurse, employed
at the Hillsdale Community Health Center, retiring in 1977. She was a member of
the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, the Litchfield Garden Club,
the Litchfield Historical Society, and a past member of the Michigan Practical
Nurses Association.
Surviving besides her husband Russell are two daughters, Sue (Marv) Shull of
Hillsdale and Mary Lou (Art) Weber of Spring Hill, Florida; two sons, Phil
(Barb) Piriczky of Hillsdale and Roger Piriczky of Smyrna, Georgia; a step
daughter, Betty (Robert) Fleming of Concord; two step sons, Jerry (Joyce)
Bender of Litchfield and Wayne (Cathy) Bender of Peshpigo, Wisconsin; two
brothers, Leo Olmstead of Ormond Beach, Florida and Carl (Mary Lou) Olmstead of
Frontier; nine grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, two great great
grandchildren and several step grandchildren and step great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her first husband Arthur, and her grandson, Mike
Piriczky.
Funeral services for Edna Bender will be Friday at 11:00 a.m., at the
VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale. Interment will follow at the Waldron
Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the
funeral home.
