Stanley Shumway
Stanley Eugene Shumway, 88, of Nokomis, Fla., died Sunday, July,
29, 2007.
He was born July 9, 1919, in Waldron, Mich., and has been a resident of Nokomis
and Canada for the last 20 years. He was owner of Shumway’s Flowers in Tiffin
before he retired.
Mr. Shumway was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran, serving on a ship that made
the Murmansk run. He received the Liberty Medal for his service during the war.
Surviving family members include his wife, Betty Lou Shumway of Nokomis; a
brother, Robert Shumway of Silver Springs, Fla.; daughters, Jane (John) Wetzel
of New Riegel, Dorothy Ann (Rudy) Hollingsworth of Taylorsville, N.C., Barb
(William) Shumway of Tiffin, Peggy Long of Peoria, Ariz., and Susan (Ed)
Moerder of Mesa, Ariz.; sons, John (Ethel) Shumway of Bellevue, Kevin (Janet)
Shumway of Pickerington, Kermit Long Jr. of Phoenix, Ariz., and Ken (Karen)
Long of Lebanon, Ore.; 19 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren and
great-great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his daughter, Mary Elizabeth Shumway; wife, Helen Benner
Shumway; and parents.
Services will be held at a later date in Tiffin.
